about

Conceived in January 2017 and completed in March 2018, Trying Times is an album in two parts. Recorded in Herndon, VA, Chicago, IL, and Bangalore, India.

“I’ve been working on this project for the past year and I’m happy to share it with all of you now. It’s called Trying Times, and for obvious reasons. Without getting into detail, many of these songs are responses to personal challenges. Some are inexplicit reactions to the political and social issues that we have witnessed since I began producing it in August of 2016. I find it difficult to adequately express what this collection of songs means to me because for so long it has felt like a parasite that I have been unable to remove from my body, and it doesn’t feel the same as it did when I began. I release it now as a manifestation of the hope I have for people to heal, and to find creative ways of coping with fear. I feel very fortunate to have collaborated with so many friends on this album, and grateful for everything that I have learned along the way. I hope you enjoy.”

Part one lyrics (tracks 1-9):

ALL I AM / THIS WILL NEVER END / END OF TIMES NEVER FELT SO RIGHT / ALL YOUR LIFE IS A FLICKER IN THE FLAME / WON’T YOU HOLD TIGHT AND WE’LL TRY IT AGAIN // BYE BYE, YOU SILLY LITTLE MAN / I WISH YOU THE WORLD, IT’S READY FOR YOUR FOOTSTEPS / WALK ON, SEE WHAT YOU CAN / TELL US A STORY WHEN YOU GET BACK / MAYBE THERE’S ANOTHER WAY // WE’RE GOING BACKWARDS / GOING BACKWARDS / IT FEELS / UNREAL // CAN YOU FIND YOUR WAY FROM HERE // I CAN’T PRETEND / IT’S NOT THE END / DOOM COMES FOR US / DEATH FROM WITHIN // THERE IS A VOICE IN ME / CALLING OUT IN VAIN / NEVER LEARNED TO SPEAK / FINGERS TOUCH THE KEYS / THERE IS A HOPE THAT BLEEDS / AND I FEAR THAT YOU WILL NEVER SEE / WE’LL NEVER SEE / I CAN FEEL THE FEAR INSIDE OF ME / AND I HOPE THAT YOU WILL NEVER SEE / GROWING STRONGER / YET I FEEL SO WEAK / THERE IS A VOID / THERE IS A STRENGTH IN YOUR VOICE / YOU MAY DESTROY MY REALITY / FIRE BURNING ON A SHATTERED SCREEN / CARMINE SKIES / RISING TIDES / FROM THE ASHES I WILL PLANT THE SEEDS / HOLD ON TO ME / GOODBYE // EASY COME, EASY GO / WE’VE BEEN HERE BEFORE / LIFE TAKES YOU TO CRAZY PLACES / HERE ONE DAY, AND THEN YOU’RE GONE / WHAT’S MISSING / FEELS LIKE SOMETHING’S MISSING / I’M MISSING YOU // FREE YOUR MIND // IF YOU CATCH ME, YOU MAY HOLD ME / I’LL BE ANYTHING YOU WANT ME TO BE / AND IF YOU LOVE ME, YOU MAY BREAK ME / WATCH ME CRUMBLE TO PIECES / WE’RE ALIVE FOR THE BLINK OF AN EYE //

Part two lyrics (tracks 10-25)

\\ YOU’LL SEE WHAT YOU SEE / CAN’T DENY THESE ARE TRYING TIMES / EVERYBODY WANTS TO RULE THE WORLD / HOW LONG CAN WE LOOK AT EACH OTHER / THERE’S NO HARM IN TRYING // GIVE IT A MOMENT // BEYOND THE VEIL OF SIGHT / THE GATE IS IN YOUR MIND / SOAR THROUGH SPACE AND TIME / THE WORLD INSIDE YOUR EYE // FREE YOUR MIND / WIN THE FIGHT // COME AND GET ME // HEARTS ALIGN FROM INSIDE / AND MY HEAD KEEPS THINKING / AND MY HEART KEEPS SINKING // CATCH YOUR EYES WITH MY SMILE / IN YOUR ARMS FOR A WHILE / THERE’S NO TIME // I WON’T BE HERE FOR LONG / YOU REMAIN / EVER PRESENT //
